first test: sugar cookies

The last time I baked cookies, it was 5 years ago and I totally crashed and burned. I made oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, but I had no concept of what temperature things are supposed to be before mixing, what to mix first, etc. Despite this, since then without realizing it, I developed an obsession with baking even though my idea of baking was popping in a frozen pizza into my toaster oven (preheating was always optional for me!). Only recently did I finally decide to use my big oven because I found out how to easily clean it (ok, so I was completely oblivious to the normal workings of an oven, but I didn’t grow up with something baking in it—–it was always used for storage!).
So earlier this week, I made sugar cookies for the first time. I picked this cookie because I came across a recipe that seemed pretty simple—just a few ingredients and not too complicated. However, I didn’t plan ahead and so my butter was cold and not at room temperature before I mixed it with the sugar, but they came out pretty good despite that. I got the recipe from the savory sweet life, here: http://savorysweetlife.com/2010/06/drop-cracked-sugar-cookies/
